Can two attorneys witness each other's signatures?

Yes. Attorneys can witness each other's signatures. Many blogs get this wrong and say they cannot. The rule only stops an attorney witnessing the donor's signature.

The rule

Under SI 2007/1253 regulation 9, an attorney may not witness the donor's signature. There is no rule stopping one attorney from witnessing another attorney's signature, provided the witness is 18 or over, present, and signs and prints their full name and address.

Why blogs get this wrong

Some guidance sites state broadly that attorneys cannot be witnesses. That conflates the rule about the donor's signature with the general witness rules. Attorneys can witness each other, and the certificate provider can witness an attorney too, provided they are 18 or over and not otherwise disqualified.

Practical tip

If you have two attorneys, they can witness each other's section 11 signatures on the same day. Just make sure each prints their full name and address.
