Do you get your £92 back if the OPG rejects your LPA?
Last updated 22 August 2026
If the OPG returns your LPA unregistered, you do not automatically get the £92 registration fee refunded. However, you can resubmit within 3 months for a reduced fee of £46 rather than paying the full £92 again.
The reduced resubmission fee
Under the Public Guardian (Fees, etc.) Regulations 2007 (SI 2007/2051) regulation 5(1A), if you resubmit within 3 months of the invalid application being returned, and the earlier application was made on or after 1 October 2011, you pay a reduced fee of £46 rather than £92. Several competitor sites state flatly that there is no reduced fee and you pay £92 again. That is wrong.
When the fee is refunded
The OPG may refund the fee in full where the application is withdrawn before registration is refused, or in limited circumstances set out in the regulations. If your LPA is simply rejected as invalid, the fee is not refunded, but the reduced resubmission fee applies.
The current fee
The registration fee is £92 per LPA, or £184 for both, since 17 November 2025 (gov.uk power-of-attorney-fees).
