How long does it take to register an LPA in 2026?

Last updated 22 August 2026

The OPG currently takes around 8 to 10 weeks to register an LPA (OPG service update, 4 August 2026). The statutory waiting period is four weeks, not eight, and objectors have 3 weeks from their notice.

Current processing time

The OPG service update of 4 August 2026 gives a current processing time of 8 to 10 weeks. The OPG's mean clearance was 45 working days in 2025-26 against a 40-day target (OPG Annual Report and Accounts 2025-26).

The statutory waiting period

The statutory waiting period is four weeks, not eight. It is set by SI 2007/1253 regulation 12. Many sites say eight weeks. They are wrong. During this period, anyone you have named to notify has 3 weeks from their notice to object (regulation 14).

If your form is rejected

If the OPG rejects your form, you can resubmit within 3 months for a reduced fee of £46 under SI 2007/2051 reg 5(1A). The 8 to 10 week processing time starts again from your resubmission.

Frequently asked questions

Is the waiting period 4 or 8 weeks?

It is 4 weeks. The 8-week figure is a common error.

Can I speed it up?

Not by paying more. The fee is fixed. The best way to avoid delay is to get the form right first time.
